On October 23, the Irmo Branch hosted their third annual United Nations Day. Dancers performed from the Hindu Cultural Center and Dance of Ireland. Staff members Antonella Nardella and Jacqueline Owens read the bilingual book Pizza in Pienza by Susan Fillion with Antonella reading in Italian and Jacqueline reading in English. Food was generously donated by Chapala’s Mexican Restaurant (chips and salsa), Travinia’s Italian Kitchen (lasagna), The Villa (garlic bread), Zorba’s Greek Restaurant (baklava), and Bhavani Kalapathy (yogurt salad and chicken biryani). We hope to make it an even bigger event next year!
October was full of informative and interactive programs at the Batesburg-Leesville Branch. Lindsay the Cat captivated students from the Batesburg-Leesville primary and elementary schools with a Halloween-themed Family Reading Night. Clad in costumes, the children moved to the rhythm of a Monster Mash puppet show, danced the Monster Walk and paraded through the library.
On October 13, the branch held an Asian Tea Party. Patrons were introduced to the various dances, songs, languages, and foods of Asia. As part of the tea, staff member Diann performed a traditional Chinese ribbon dance. She shared how this emotional style of dance represents the culture and history of China.
